Installation

Q. Why do I get a Security Warning that asks me if I want to install and run the DejaSurf Toolbar?

Your security settings are set so that you are prompted before any programs are installed on your machine. The dialog box is just asking you to confirm that you want to install the DejaSurf Toolbar.

Q. I've installed the DejaSurf Toolbar, but I can't find it. What happened?

If you do not see the Toolbar, go to Internet Explorer menu View...Toolbars and click on the DejaSurf option.

Be advised that some earlier builds of IE 5.0 have a known problem with their support for toolbars. The DejaSurf Toolbar may be listed under the name 'Radio' (usually the second such listing). This may also keep the DejaSurf Toolbar from initially appearing when it is first installed. Go to View > Toolbars and click on the second radio option.

If you are using IE 6 and you are experiencing trouble downloading the DejaSurf Toolbar, please make sure the following item is enabled in your browser: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Enable third party browser extensions.

Q. What URL do I send to my friends so they can install the DejaSurf Toolbar?

You can install the DejaSurf Toolbar at http://www.dejasurf.com

Q. When I try to install the DejaSurf Toolbar on WindowsNT/2000/XP, it fails. What's happening?

If you're running Windows 2000 or Windows XP, verify that you have the Administrative privileges required to install applications. Check with your system administrator if you are uncertain about the status of your system privileges.

Q. How can I find out when a new version is available?

New major release may require a re-install. Click here to see the latest release.

Q. I've tried more than once to install the DejaSurf Toolbar, but it still fails. What now?

If the Toolbar doesn't install for you, and you've verified that it's not due to any of the other problems listed above in the Installation section of this FAQ, then click here to contact us.

Q. How do I uninstall DejaSurf?

A. DejaSurf can be uninstalled from the Control Panel using the "Add/Remove Programs" icon, like any other application. Alternatively, you click on the DejaSurf logo in your IE toolbar to temporarily disable DejaSurf.

Using the DejaSurf Toolbar

Q. How can I move my Toolbar to a different place?

You can change the location of the DejaSurf Toolbar on your browser by clicking and dragging the vertical separator bar to the left of the DejaSurf logo. Simply place your Toolbar in the desired location. This functionality enables you to place two toolbars on the same line if you want to conserve space in your browser.

Please note that, as with all of the IE browser toolbars, you can only move the DejaSurf Toolbar to locations at the top of your browser window; toolbars cannot be placed on the side or bottom of the browser window.

Q. How do I hide the Toolbar? How do I make it reappear?

You can toggle the Toolbar on and off using the View > Toolbars option on your browser's menu line. Click on DejaSurf to make the Toolbar display or disappear.

Be advised that some earlier versions of IE 5.0 have a known problem with their support for toolbars. The DejaSurf Toolbar may be listed under the name 'Radio' (usually the second such listing).

Passwords

Q. How do I set a master password to protect my personal information.

You can set a single password to protect all your personal information on your computer. This is especially useful if multiple people have access to your computer and you don't want to give them access to your personal information.

Whether or not you use a password, rest assured that your passwords are fully encrypted. If you forget your password, you will not be able to read your password file, but neither will anyone else.

On the DejaSurf toolbar choose the DejaSurf...Password... menu item to set your master password. Afterwards, all access to your DejaSurf information will require you to login to the DejaSurf toolbar (once per day).

Backups

Q. How do I backup my DejaSurf personal information.

A. See this web page.

Q. How do I transfer my DejaSurf personal information to another computer.

A. See this web page.

Recording and Playing back

Q. Why is this feature no longer available?

A. The record/playback feature was rarely used by most DejaSurf users. Although this is small consolation if you did use it, the DejaSurf team now has more time to enhance and improve our powerful form-filling and password management features.

Hiding Popup Ads

Q. Why is this feature no longer available?

A. Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2 comes with a great built-in popup killer. If you're not running this version of IE, we recommend you upgrade to the newest possible version to get important security updates.

Registration

Q. How do I register?

A. See the registration website. Currently DejaSurf is Shareware. You can use DejaSurf free for 14 days. After 14-days, the product will no longer fill-in passwords or forms.

Q. My registration code doesn't work!

A. Immediately after registering, you should receive an email with your registration information. Simply click on the link in the email.

The most common problem: Some email programs "split" the registration hyperlink into two lines (Outlook Express seems to do this a lot). So when you click on the link, only part of the link is used -- which leads to an error message.

Solution: Open a new Internet Explorer window. Cut and paste both parts of the link into the browser "address bar" so that it looks like one line as in the picture below:

If this doesn't work: Send an email to support@dejasurf.com. Please describe the symptoms of the problem!

Q. I forgot/lost/erased my registration code!

A. Simply send an email to support@dejasurf.com with your first and last name. We'll be happy to  lookup the number and send you a new one! Please allow up to a few days for this process, especially on weekends!

Problems

Q. How do I report a problem?

A. Use our support web page.
